Marcel Johannes Kits (cello), Katariina Maria Kits (violin) and Sten Heinoja (piano) are all winners of the Estonian Television competition for young classical artists “Klassikatähed” in the years 2013, 2014 and 2016 respectively. They all started their musical education in Estonia, won several prizes and are continuing their studies abroad, while performing as soloists, with orchestras and in chamber ensembles on prestigious stages.

Beside the Classical Stars competition in 2013, Marcel Johannes Kits (born 1995) won the Estonian National String Competition in 2015 and the 1st prize and 2 special prizes at the Johannes Brahms competition in Pörtschach (Austria) in 2016. From October 2014, he studies with prof. Francis Gouton in Trossingen University of Music (Germany).

In the season 2015/16 Marcel made his debut in Germany with the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen and had concerts with St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and Estonian National Symphony Orchestra in Estonia and in Russia.

Marcel plays on an Italian cello made by Francesco Ruggeri (Cremona, 1674) kindly on loan to him by the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.

Katariina Maria Kits, Marcel’s twin sister, started playing violin at the age of six.  At a very young age, she won several prizes in Estonia, Romania, Slovakia and Norway. In 2014 she won the Estonia TV Classic Stars competition. After studies in Tallinn, she continued in 2014-2016 at Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne in Switzerland with professor Svetlana Makarova, and from 2016 she is studying in Musikhochschule Trossingen with professor Marina Chiche.

Sten Heinoja began his piano studies at the age of four; at the Estonian Acadey of Music and Theatre he studied under the guidance of Professor Ivari Ilja and received his Bachelor’s degree cum laude in 2015.

From the very young age, Sten has successfully performed at several competitions in Estonia, as well as in Lithuania, Latvia, and Turkey. In 2014, Sten won the 8thEstonian Piano Competition. At the RCM Gateway competition held at the end of 2015, Sten was very successful and moved on to perform at the most famous concert halls in London (the Wigmore Hall and the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room).

In the spring of 2016, Sten won the Classical Stars competition. In addition to participating in competitions, Sten also regularly performs concerts. In recent years, he has collaborated with the Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra in the USA, with whom he has performed the piano concertos of Edvard Grieg and Sergei Rachmaninov. Sten performs regularly in Estonia as well, as part of chamber groups, as a soloist, and as an accompanistetc. From 2015, Sten is continuing his studies in London, at the Royal College of Music. He was granted a full Master’s scholarship to complete his studies. His instructor is Professor Vanessa Latarche.
